BUILDING BRANDS, BUILDING BUILDINGS, BUILDING BRONZEVILLE:

Project Overview

Established in 2020, the Bronzeville Center for the Arts (BCA) is a nonprofit organization rooted in the art, culture, and history of the African Diaspora. Located in Bronzeville – a historically African American neighborhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin – the BCA invites audiences of all ages to engage with dynamic exhibitions and enriching educational programming.

The Challenge

As the BCA sought to make major investments in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville, organizational leadership knew there was a need for a strategic, compelling and comprehensive communications approach.

The Solution

From refreshing a logo and building out key brand elements and collateral materials, to website development and earned media outreach, Mueller Communications has worked hand-in-hand with the BCA to develop and execute strategic communications:
  • Branding: Leveraging existing assets, Mueller Communications refreshed the BCA’s brand, updating the logo to be more versatile and building out the brand with fonts and graphic assets.
  • Collateral: Developing core collateral and event materials including a fact sheet, FAQs, pull-up banners, table clothes and tents.
  • Website: Developing content for, designing, building and maintaining the BCA’s website.
  • Major Announcements:
  • Gallery 507: Mueller Communications announced the BCA’s first major investment in the Bronzeville community, which serves as the BCA’s headquarters and is the organization’s first development in the heart of Milwaukee’s Bronzeville District at 507 W. North Ave. The 3,500 square foot facility is also home to an artists’ gallery, a makerspace and retail area.
  • Destination Arts Museum: On the heels of the Gallery 507 announcement, Mueller Communications helped the BCA rollout news of its plans for a destination arts museum. We coordinated embargoed stories to run in conjunction with stakeholder outreach to ensure key audiences were hearing the news directly from BCA.
  • Architect team: When the BCA selected its initial architectural team, Mueller Communications led a rollout strategy that included board of directors communication, stakeholder engagement and a robust media outreach effort.
  • Executive Director: When the BCA hired its first executive director, Mueller Communications introduced him to the community through earned media outreach and stakeholder engagement. Annual Report: Mueller Communications developed content for and designed the BCA’s inaugural annual report, highlighting key accomplishments and efforts of the organization.

The Results

The Bronzeville Center for the Arts has been celebrated as a major – and much needed – effort and project. To-date, hundreds of earned media pieces have been secured, laying a solid foundation of storytelling to serve as the base of future outreach as the project progresses.
